Latest NewsBallwin named Tree City USA The City of Ballwin was named Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation in honor of the city’s commitment to effective urban forest management. The City achieved Tree City recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation. (Observance was cancelled this spring due to Covid 19.) This is the 30th consecutive year that Ballwin has achieved this recognition. Trees provide multiple benefits to a community when properly planted and maintained. They help improve the visual appeal of a neighborhood, increase property values, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants and provide wildlife habitat, among many other benefits. Tree City USA is sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the US Forestry Service and the national Association of State Foresters. These programs provide direction, technical assistance, public attention and national recognition for community forestry programs.
